Sometimes the best roads are the small ones

It started at a kitchen table

boreen didn't begin as a grand tech venture. In 2015 Cat founded Witty Walks, guiding tours in Dublin and Wicklow in English and Dutch. She couldn't find a booking system that felt right for a small tour business. Everything was either too expensive, too simple or too overwhelming.

So she turned to Remco, her husband and a software engineer, and asked, half-joking and half-desperate, whether he could build something. And he did.

Grown in real life

Over the years that little system was tested with real customers. Whenever something snagged or slowed people down, it was refined, adjusted and improved.

As Cat's businesses grew, boreen grew with them. When Witty Walks needed self-guided digital tours, Remco built them. When Beneath the Canopy, Cat's nature connection business, started running forest bathing walks and launched a full training programme for Forest Bathing & Nature Connection Guides, he added events and a learning platform. What started as a tiny tool for one small business became a flexible system that now supports many.

Why “boreen”?

A boreen is a narrow country road: the kind that winds between hedgerows, invites curiosity and leads you somewhere unexpected. It's a fitting name for a platform that helps small businesses create clear pathways for their communities.

Built by a small business, for small businesses

Because boreen was built for a small business owner, by people running one, it does what you need it to do without the bloat. We still use it every day for bookings, digital tours and online courses, and we keep adding the tools we feel are missing and improving the ones that are already there.
